In 2006, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was established by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – one of the top ten universities in China. Offering a unique international education experience, XJTLU brings together excellent research practices and expertise from both institutions and equips students with the skills and knowledge they need to secure a career in a global market. XJTLU now has over 25,000 students enrolled in Suzhou and Liverpool in the UK, with plans to reach around 28,000 students by 2025. There are currently around 2,000 staff, of which around 1,000 are academic staff, with an almost equal split between citizens of the People’s Republic of China and holders of international passports. XJTLU is entering an exciting new phase of its development as part of its strategic priorities for the next ten years. Adopting a new higher education model based on the concept of syntegrative education (SE), XJTLU is currently opening a new entrepreneurship education site in Taicang, a part of wider Suzhou, where the College of Entrepreneurs (Taicang) is located. . The Taicang site will be a pioneer and an educational model for the future campus in meeting the challenges posed by the 4th industrial revolution. Other new initiatives include new working partnerships with Xi’an Jiaotong University, continued development of the four new academies, and exploration of other potential locations to develop the SE model.

Through research, education, and community engagement, XJTLU’s Department of Health and Environmental Sciences seeks to discover, study, and solve complex environmental and health issues that affect humans in rapidly changing urban and rural environments. The department’s research and teaching areas are ecology and environmental pollution with 21 academic staff positions, currently 3 open positions and 14 staff members hired in the last 4 years.



Applications are invited for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position in Environmental Science in the Department of Ecology and Health and Environmental Sciences, Xi’an Jiaotong University-Liverpool.

The positions are 40% research, 40% teaching and 20% service. The initial appointment is on a 3 year contract and is equivalent to a tenure track position. Research expertise can be in any basic or applied area of ​​environmental science. Successful candidates will teach environmental science courses based on current and future departmental needs. The HES has current educational needs in environmental engineering, aquatic ecology & aquatic chemistry.



The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent degree in environmental science or a related field relevant to environmental science and relevant research and teaching experience to be appointed assistant/associate professor. English is the language of instruction at XJTLU.
