Environmental Science, Policy, and Sustainability at SOU

Southern Oregon University is committed to sustainable practices, environmental stewardship, and research that advances our understanding of local, regional, and global environmental issues.

Student engagement: Student leadership is an important part of what makes SOU a wonderful place to live and study. Sustainable operations: Southern Oregon University has been nationally recognized for its commitment to operational sustainability. SOU recently received the Association to Advance Sustainability in Higher Education’s Best Case Study Award, was the first university in the nation to certify as Bee Campus USA, and now has housing of LEED Gold campuses. Our environment: Southern Oregon University is located between the Cascade and Siskiyou mountain ranges. With mild winters and hot, dry summers, Rogue Valley is an all-season outdoor wonderland. The scenic campus is within walking distance of extensive trail networks for hikers and cyclists, and several world-class whitewater rivers are just a short drive from Ashland.
