Based within the highly respected University of Southampton, the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences (FELS) offers an exceptional interdisciplinary learning experience in which students can select modules from multiple schools. The schools of Marine and Earth Sciences, Biological Sciences, Geography and Environmental Sciences, and Psychology all sit under this umbrella, and it is here that you might find a unique challenge. We are currently looking for an Associate Professor and three Lecturers to join our team, working together to provide exceptional learning and research opportunities on our Natural Science program.
If you join us at Associate Professor level, you will take the lead in this ambitious program, while pursuing relevant research activities within the School of Marine and Earth Sciences. By focusing on solving environmental and societal challenges, you will ensure that we maintain our global reputation for excellence by making full use of our world-class facilities at the National Center for Oceanography, Southampton to develop a portfolio of original research projects . By setting the team’s strategic goals, you will attract funding and share your knowledge with national and international peers.
You will have the exciting opportunity to coordinate and redesign the natural science curriculum. You will also help students prepare for successful careers in science, engineering, industry, business, politics and government by delivering lectures*, tutorials, practicals and seminars. With a PhD in a relevant field, you will have a strong reputation for research and extensive teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level. This will include course module design and curriculum development, as well as demonstrable mentoring capabilities.
If you join us as a Lecturer, you will provide a cutting-edge education to natural science students at all levels, while simultaneously conducting impactful research in one of three areas: biological sciences, geography and environmental sciences, or psychology. The School of Psychology also succeeds with access to purpose-built facilities, and the team works collaboratively across government departments and with the support of strategic partners in government and industry.
Within one of these schools, you will give lectures, tutorials, practical work and seminars, and you will enjoy working directly with students and identifying how you can help them achieve even more in their studies. . With a PhD in a relevant discipline, we expect you to have teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and you will have well-developed entrepreneurial and research abilities.

*The modality of teaching delivery will naturally depend on the state of the Covid-19 pandemic and local conditions, but it is expected that the majority of teaching during the 2022/23 academic session will be in person.
