“Globally, the global community is now paying particular attention to climate. We see the need to intensify work in the field of pollution control. We will focus on these issues at the United Nations Environment Assembly (Nairobi, December 4-6). I will personally participate in its work, ”the statement said.
Earlier, the Lancet medical magazine published the results of a survey conducted by American experts, which found the number of people dying from environmental pollution to be half the number of deaths from smoking. and 15 times greater than that related to war and violence. deaths. The list of countries with the highest death rates includes India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, North Korea, South Sudan, and Haiti.
The Russian Minister of Natural Resources noted that Russia “is not on this list and cannot be there because 65% of its territories are not affected by any commercial activity”.
Yet air pollution is a thorny problem for many Russian cities, the minister said. There are plans to reduce air pollution through quota arrangements for industrial emissions. Inter-agency cooperation on the corresponding bill is being finalized.
